The Indispensable Genius of The Far Side

    My favorite comics.

They were/are still one of my favorites.

The Far Side has always been one of my favorite comics and this is exactly why.

    Far Side love

This comic was one of the formative experiences of my youth.

I follow Shaenon Garrity’s comics fairly religiously, but it was still Tumblr that alerted me to the existence of this (good, if sad) one. Shaenon’s website has more of her comics listed (though not this one even though the original file is on the site). And I have to mention that she is the creator of Monster of the Week and Skin Horse which I have plugged before.

Tip of the hat to SeananMcGuire and Brinstar for finding this.

I’d dropped Shaenon a line asking if she’d mind if I cut up the comic I previously blogged to make it more tumblr friendly, but I see I’m behind the curve here. Hurrah, etc.

    whats next “sexy object”

because that’s what people are seeing girls as

I’m a girl, and I approve of this message.

    Body Positivity for the win.

9 out of 16 are WoC from 9 different nationalities - Spanish, Native American, Middle Eastern, Greek, Hawaiian, South African, Indian, African-American and Chinese.

Even the “white” people don’t all come from the same place - French, Irish, American, Scottish, German, and English.

I’m really sorry if I left out YOUR nationality or YOUR body type, but if I kept going to include every single possible woman in the world I’d never have time for sleep or school work.

    holy crap you got everyone

I really like this, i started at the beginning in closeup, and every time i clicked there was something new and towards the end, i was seeing bodies id never seen represented

yea this is seriously great! i hereby dub it the most beautifully inclusive actual representation of body positivity i’ve seen illustrated yet.

Every damn year.
I need to learn how to draw a decent Batman pic.
EDIT: And apologies to anyone offended by the cover.

Dude, we’re not offended by the cover.  You have unwittingly drawn a woman’s experience at cons.  There are the douchey guys who think their comic should appeal to us, and blame the fanartist who drew a popular character for his wide audience appeal… and then there are people who don’t make their comic about SEXIST CRAP, who just sit there and draw things we like and wholeheartedly embrace women as people who like comics.
The guy in the cap in your comic?  He’s not objectifying women in his work or talking crap about them because they don’t like an ~indie comic writer’s~ stuff.  He’s just drawing Green Lantern.
The guys at the other table?  They drew a comic that’s one of a zillion comics about boobs, which says all we need to hear.  “I have never met a woman in my entire life, and I’m trying to market this to you so I can make a buck off you.  If you don’t like it, it’s your own fault!  Women don’t like real comics!”
The guys at the table on the right deserve to be walked past.

#people view comics as an escape #it would be nice if ladies #got to escape a little bit too #and not be reminded that our only importance #to some people #are our bodies and what pleasure they can get from our bodies (via bookworm221b)
